Report of United Nations Exploratory Mission to Honduras of 6 to 10 February 2018
 
The UN Department of Political Affairs (DPA) deployed, at the request of the Honduran Government, an exploratory mission to Honduras from 6 to 10 February 2018. 
 
Yesterday, Miroslav Jenča, Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs, delivered to Mary Elizabeth Flores, Permanent Representative of Honduras to the United Nations, the report of the exploratory mission.
 
Mr. Jenča conveyed the gratitude of the Secretariat to the Honduran Government, following its request for technical support from the UN for the implementation of a process to facilitate a future national dialogue. He also thanked political parties and civil society for their trust in the Organization.
 
The mission among other things assessed conditions for a possible dialogue. The mission’s report was presented with the aim of suggesting measures that would contribute to the promotion of the necessary political reforms within the framework of the Honduran Constitution, respect for human rights and the rule of law.
 
The mission's report recommends a series of confidence-building measures that could help establish the basis for a future dialogue. The mission believes such measures can help reduce tensions and generate credibility in such a process.
 
The United Nations commitment to the protection of human rights underpins the report. The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Honduras is available to support the follow-up to the recommendations in this area, in cooperation with the Government of Honduras. DPA, UNDP and other UN partners stand ready to continue supporting national efforts, including the implementation of the report's recommendations.

Informe de la Misión exploratoria de las Naciones Unidas en Honduras del 6 al 10 de febrero de 2018
 
El Departamento de Asuntos Políticos de las Naciones Unidas (DPA) desplegó, a pedido del Gobierno hondureño, una misión exploratoria a Honduras del 6 al 10 de febrero de 2018.
 
Ayer, Miroslav Jenča, Subsecretario General de Asuntos Políticos, entregó a la Embajadora Mary Elizabeth Flores, Representante Permanente de Honduras ante las Naciones Unidas, el informe de la misión exploratoria.
 
El Sr. Jenča transmitió la gratitud de la Secretaría al Gobierno hondureño, por su confianza en las Naciones Unidas, a raíz de su solicitud de apoyo técnico de la ONU para la implementación de un proceso para facilitar un futuro diálogo nacional.  Asimismo, también agradeció a los partidos políticos y la sociedad civil por su confianza en la Organización.
 
La misión, entre otras cosas, evaluó las condiciones para un posible diálogo. El informe de la misión fue presentado con el objetivo de sugerir medidas que contribuirían a la promoción de las reformas políticas necesarias en el marco de la Constitución hondureña, el respeto de los derechos humanos y el estado de derecho.
 
El informe de la misión recomienda una serie de medidas de fomento de la confianza que podrían ayudar a establecer las bases para un diálogo futuro. La misión cree que tales medidas pueden ayudar a reducir las tensiones y generar credibilidad en dicho proceso.
 
El compromiso de las Naciones Unidas con la protección de los derechos humanos es la base del informe. La Oficina del Alto Comisionado de las Naciones Unidas para los Derechos Humanos en Honduras está disponible para apoyar el seguimiento de las recomendaciones en esta área, en cooperación con el Gobierno de Honduras. DPA, PNUD y otros agencias y programas de la ONU están dispuestos a seguir apoyando los esfuerzos nacionales, incluida la implementación de las recomendaciones del informe.
