In response to questions received on the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Jeffrey Feltman will remain in the Pyongyang area throughout his visit. While in China, he met today with Vice Foreign Minister Li Baodong.
The last Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs to visit the country was B. Lynn Pascoe in February 2010. Former Emergency Relief Coordinator Valerie Amos visited the DPRK in October 2011.
Six UN agencies – the UN Development Programme (UNDP), UNICEF, the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Food Programme (WFP), the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) – are represented in the DPRK, with approximately 50 international staff.
