Readout of the meeting between the Secretary-General and Members of the High-Level Advisory Board on Mediation
Readouts | António Guterres, Secretary-General
The Secretary-General met on 27 November with members of the newly established High-Level Advisory Board on Mediation. The Secretary-General welcomed the global statesmen and stateswomen, eminent personalities and mediation practitioners who make up the Board. The Secretary-General emphasized that, in a global environment characterized by multiple challenges affecting peace and security, there is an urgent need to invest in prevention and address the root causes of conflicts and further mediation efforts. The advice of the Board on how to approach those challenges will be particularly relevant. In specific situations, and as appropriate, the Secretary-General may seek the individual and informal engagement of Board members. The Secretary-General intends to continue to develop and strengthen close partnerships with regional and sub-regional organizations in advancing mediation at a strategic and high level, while also supporting community and grassroots driven efforts. The Secretary-General counts on the support of the members of the Board in furthering his mediation efforts.
