In this context, the Secretary-General commended Kenya’s continued commitment to the promotion of peace and security in the region, including in Somalia and South Sudan. The Secretary-General encouraged the return of Kenya to UNMISS and, following discussion, welcomed the decision of Kenya to resume its contribution to UNMISS, in support of the implementation of its mandate and the search for peace. President Uhuru Kenyatta and the Secretary-General discussed ways of strengthening Kenya’s contribution to peacekeeping. In this respect, it was agreed that Kenya will be given the opportunity to provide a Force Commander to a UN peacekeeping mission.
