The Secretary-General met today with H. E. Nicolas Maduro, President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, in the margins of the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development, Habitat III.
 
The Secretary-General and President Maduro discussed the peace process in Colombia in the aftermath of the plebiscite. The Secretary-General said he remained encouraged by the commitment to peace reiterated by all parties to the process. He also welcomed the upcoming negotiations starting on 27 October in Ecuador between the Colombian Government and the ELN.
 
On Haiti, the Secretary-General emphasized the scope of the devastation caused by Hurricane Matthew. The Secretary-General and President Maduro agreed on the need for more support from the international community, both financially and in technical assistance.
 
The two leaders also discussed the border controversy between Guyana and Venezuela.
