I send my best wishes to all of you gathered in Gwangju for the 28th Summer Universiade Games. I commend the Organizing Committee for its commitment.

Congratulations to the thousands of students who have come from around the world to celebrate education, culture and sports.

The United Nations deeply values sport as a catalyst for progress.

Athletic competitions promote friendship, understanding, respect and fair play.

Your Summer Universiade can help promote a more sustainable, just and peaceful future.

I wish you great success in the competition – and I urge you to stand together as global citizens.
