Statement attributable to the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General
on the report of Honduras' Truth and Reconciliation Commission

He hopes that the Commission's report will serve as an important contribution to strengthen democracy, human rights and the rule of law in Honduras. He also hopes the report will help heal the wounds of the recent past and strengthen the unity of the Honduran people.

The Secretary-General is confident that the Honduran Government will study the report carefully and implement its recommendations. The United Nations is ready to assist Honduras in this endeavour.
