Statement attributable to the Spokesman for the Secretary-General on Chad (Scroll down for English and French versions)

The Secretary-General is concerned at reports of increasing rebel military activities in the province of Ouaddai and that they are advancing in the direction of N'djamena. The Secretary-General reiterates his condemnation of any attempt to seize power by force. He urges the Chadian protagonists to engage in dialogue, end armed violence in the country and foster national reconciliation.

Le Secrétaire général est préoccupé par les rapports faisant état d'une intensification des activités militaires des rebelles dans la province du Ouaddaï et de leur avance en direction de N'djamena. Le Secrétaire général réitère sa condamnation de toute tentative de prise de pouvoir par la force. Il encourage tous les protagonistes tchadiens à engager le dialogue, à mettre un terme aux violences armées dans le pays et à favoriser la réconciliation nationale.
