The Secretary-General met today with His Excellency Mr. Nasser Judeh, the Foreign Minister of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
The Secretary-General and Foreign Minister Judeh discussed US Secretary of State John Kerry’s efforts to resume negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians. The Secretary-General commended the Jordanian Foreign Minister’s continued efforts in recent years to get the Israeli–Palestinian dialogue back on track.
On Syria, the Secretary-General expressed gratitude for the generosity of the Jordanian Government and people in hosting a large Syrian refugee community at a time when Jordan’s absorption capacity was overstretched. Both recognized that it was critical for the international community to share the burden that Jordan is carrying. The Secretary-General also called on Jordan to keep its borders open to all refugees from Syria.
The Secretary-General and the Jordanian Foreign Minister also discussed the situation in Egypt.
