The Secretary-General and H.E. Mrs. Hina Rabbani Khar, the Foreign Minister of Pakistan,  met on the sidelines of the Tokyo Conference on Afghanistan today.

The Secretary-General expressed his appreciation for Pakistan’s role on the Security Council as well as for being a top Troop Contributing Country to UN Peacekeeping Operations.

The Secretary-General and Foreign Minister discussed the role of the international community in the future development of Afghanistan as well as other matters of interest, including the Middle East Peace Process, Syria, the Rio+20 conference on sustainable development and the Conference on Disarmament as well as humanitarian operations in Pakistan and Pakistan’s relations with Afghanistan.
