Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mr. Asif Ali Zardari, President of Pakistan

The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Asif Ali Zardari on the margins of the NATO Summit.

Their discussions focussed on Afghanistan. The Secretary-General emphasized the importance of regional cooperation and Pakistan's role in that. He encouraged the President to help as much as possible with Afghanistan's reconciliation process.

They also discussed next month's Rio+20 sustainable development conference.

The Secretary-General thanked the President for Pakistan's significant contribution to peacekeeping.
