On Monday, the Secretary-General called Lieutenant General Salou Djibo, Head of the Supreme Council for the Restoration of Democracy and expressed his satisfaction at the successful way in which Niger, had managed the transitional process to constitutional order.

He also spoke to Mr. Mahamadou Issoufou, who was announced as the winner of the elections by the Independent Electoral Commission and who will be inaugurated as President of Niger on 7 April, and to Mr. Seini Oumarou, leader of the MNSD party, who has, since, conceded defeat. The Secretary-General. praised both contestants for the dignity, leadership and statesmanship displayed by them and for their efforts to promote national reconciliation.
