On this year’s International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, we are highlighting the role of Indigenous women in preserving and passing on traditional knowledge.

Indigenous women are knowledge keepers of traditional food systems and medicines.

They are champions of Indigenous languages and cultures.

They defend the environment and Indigenous peoples’ human rights.

To build and equitable and sustainable future that leaves no one behind, we must amplify the voices of Indigenous women.

Indigenous traditional knowledge can offer solutions to many of our common challenges.

On my recent visit to Suriname, I learned first-hand how Indigenous peoples are protecting their rainforest and its rich biodiversity. 

On this International Day, I call on Member States to implement the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and to promote Indigenous traditional knowledge for the benefit of all.

Cette année, à l’occasion de la Journée internationale des peuples autochtones, nous donnons un coup de projecteur sur le rôle des femmes autochtones dans la préservation et la transmission des connaissances traditionnelles.

Les femmes autochtones sont des gardiennes des savoirs touchant à la médecine et aux systèmes alimentaires traditionnels.

Elles sont des championnes des langues et des cultures autochtones.

Elles défendent l’environnement et les droits humains des peuples autochtones.

Pour construire un avenir équitable et durable où personne n’est laissé de côté, nous devons faire entendre la voix des femmes autochtones.

Les connaissances traditionnelles autochtones peuvent offrir des solutions à bon nombre de nos problèmes communs.

Lors de ma récente visite au Suriname, j’ai pu voir de mes propres yeux comment les peuples autochtones protègent leur forêt tropicale et sa riche biodiversité.

En cette Journée internationale, j’engage les États Membres à mettre en œuvre la Déclaration des Nations Unies sur les droits des peuples autochtones et à promouvoir les connaissances traditionnelles autochtones au service de toutes et tous.
