The Secretary-General strongly condemns the attack on 10 June by armed elements on a United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) patrol in Bambari, in the centre of the country. The attack resulted in the killing of a peacekeeper from Burundi and the wounding of another. This brings to five the number of peacekeepers killed in targeted attacks in the Central African Republic since January 2018, with two attacks occurring in the span of a week.
 
The Secretary-General pays tribute to all the courageous peacekeepers who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the cause of peace in the Central African Republic. He offers his deepest condolences to the family of the deceased as well as to the Government of Burundi, and wishes a swift recovery to the injured.
 
He recalls that attacks against United Nations peacekeepers may constitute a war crime and that sanctions can be applied against the perpetrators. He urges the Central African Republic authorities to spare no effort in investigating and identifying the perpetrators so that they can be swiftly brought to justice.
 
The Secretary-General reaffirms his unwavering support to MINUSCA in its efforts to protect civilians and stabilize the Central African Republic.

Déclaration attribuable au porte-parole du Secrétaire général sur la mort d'un Casque bleu en République centrafricaine
 
Le Secrétaire général condamne fermement l'attaque par un groupe armé d’une patrouille de la Mission multidimensionnelle intégrée des Nations Unies pour la stabilisation en République centrafricaine (MINUSCA), le 10 juin, à Bambari, dans le centre du pays. Un Casque bleu du Burundi a été tué dans cette attaque, un autre blessé. Cela porte à cinq le nombre de Casques bleus tués dans des attaques ciblées en République centrafricaine depuis janvier 2018, deux attaques ayant eu lieu en l'espace d'une semaine.
 
Le Secrétaire général rend hommage à tous les courageux Casques bleus qui ont fait le sacrifice ultime pour la paix en République centrafricaine. Il présente ses plus sincères condoléances à la famille de la victime, ainsi qu'au Gouvernement du Burundi, et souhaite un prompt rétablissement au blessé.
 
Il rappelle que les attaques contre les forces de maintien de la paix des Nations Unies peuvent constituer un crime de guerre et que des sanctions peuvent être appliquées contre leurs auteurs. Il exhorte les autorités de la République centrafricaine à ne ménager aucun effort pour enquêter et identifier les coupables, afin de les traduire rapidement en justice.
 
Le Secrétaire général réaffirme son soutien indéfectible à la MINUSCA dans ses efforts pour protéger les civils et stabiliser la République centrafricaine.
