Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mr. Nguyễn Xuân Phúc, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam

The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Nguyễn Xuân Phúc, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam.
 
The Secretary-General and the Prime Minister exchanged views on Viet Nam’s priorities while serving on the Security Council in 2020-2021, as well as opportunities to strengthen the ASEAN-United Nations partnership during Viet Nam’s chairmanship in 2020.
 
On climate change, the Secretary-General emphasized the need to achieve net zero emissions by 2050, or even earlier.
