The Secretary-General met today His Highness Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates.

The Secretary-General called on the Government of the United Arab Emirates to assist in the restoration of peace in Yemen.  The Secretary-General expressed his deep concern over the high number of civilian casualties there, especially as a result of Coalition airstrikes, and the increasingly massive humanitarian crisis.  He re-emphasized his firm view that no military solution to the conflict exists, and that peace can only be achieved through political negotiations and dialogue.  He reiterated his full support for the work of his Special Envoy for Yemen, Mr. Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed.
