Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with Ms. Atifete Jahjaga, Representative of the Kosovo authorities, on the margins of the 67th General Assembly

The Secretary-General met today with Ms. Atifete Jahjaga, Representative of the Kosovo authorities.

The Secretary-General stated that the United Nations remains engaged in Kosovo, in accordance with its mandate under resolution 1244 (1999), with the objective to contribute, together with international partners, to lasting peace and security in Kosovo.  

He expressed his strong belief that issues related to Kosovo can only be resolved through dialogue and peaceful means and that a flexible and constructive engagement between Belgrade and Pristina was the only way forward. 

The Secretary-General welcomed the commitment of both sides to resume discussions in the framework of the European Union-led dialogue.  
   
The Secretary-General encouraged the Kosovo authorities to remain committed to peaceful integration of all communities and building a multi-ethnic society.
