Readout of the Secretary-General's meeting with H. E. Mr. Leonel Fernández, President of the Dominican Republic, on the margins of the 66th General Assembly

The Secretary-General met today with H. E. Mr. Leonel Fernández, President of the Dominican Republic. They discussed several issues of importance to the Caribbean region, including the reconstruction of Haiti. They also discussed President Fernández' initiative for a Global Compact against Financial Speculation. The Secretary-General congratulated the President on this initiative and encouraged him to build synergies with relevant United Nations bodies, including his High-Level Task Force on the Global Security Crisis, as well as with the G20.
