Readout of Secretary-General's meeting with H.E. Mr. Celso Luis Nunes Amorim, Foreign Minister of Brazil, in the margins of the 65th General Assembly

The Secretary-General today met with Mr. Celso Luis Nunes Amorim, Foreign Minister of Brazil. The Secretary-General congratulated Foreign Minister Amorim for Brazil's progress in reducing poverty and inequality, and for its role in the G20. He noted Brazil's important leadership on a variety of topics, including the MDGs and Climate Change. The Secretary-General thanked Brazil for its contributions to South-South cooperation and CERF, among other issues. The Secretary-General and the Foreign Minister discussed the support provided by Brazil to peacekeeping operations, in particular Haiti, and to peacebuilding missions, in particular Guinea Bissau.
