The Secretary-General met today with Mauro Vieira, Foreign Minister of Brazil, in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
He thanked the Government of Brazil for its strong support for the 2030 Agenda and expressed the hope that the Sustainable Development Goals would be fully and speedily implemented by all Member States.
The Secretary-General and the Foreign Minister also discussed the forthcoming Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Paris (COP 21). He hoped that Brazil would continue to play an important role in the lead-up to, and at, the conference itself.
The Secretary-General also expressed appreciation for the role Brazil has played in supporting and enhancing peace and security in Haiti through its leading contribution to the UN Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), as well as its development assistance to the country.
The Secretary-General and the Foreign Minister also discussed the peace process in Colombia, as well as matters of peace and security in the region.
Finally, in their exchange on the Middle East, the Secretary-General and the Foreign Minister shared their concerns over the situation in Syria, as well as in relations between Israelis and Palestinians.
