The Secretary-General met today in Addis Ababa with H.E. Bakri Hassan Saleh, Vice-President of Sudan, in the margins of the Third Financing for Development Conference. The Secretary-General said he remained very concerned by the humanitarian situation in South Kordofan and Blue Nile States. He added that a transparent and inclusive political process is the only solution for Sudan to address the violent conflicts on its territory, and called on the Government's support to the United Nations–African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID). The Secretary-General and the Vice-President also discussed the situation in South Sudan, including the security and humanitarian impact of the crisis on the region. The Secretary-General said that the need for regional support and agreement on the way forward was more critical than ever.
