The Secretary-General met today with Mr. Hashim Thaci, representing the Kosovo authorities.
The Secretary-General said that the progress in European Union-facilitated dialogue between Belgarde and Pristina was encouraging for creating better foundations for peace and stability in the region.
He underlined the importance of taking a flexible and constructive approach to resolving differences in order to maintain calm on the ground, especially during the sensitive period of elections. He encouraged deeper engagement with the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK), which stands ready to assist in ensuring a peaceful resolution of issues.
