The Secretary-General expressed his gratitude to the Government of Japan for its invaluable assistance in support of United Nations field missions and for enhancing the capacity of peacekeepers.
He said that the Organization is particularly grateful to Japan for the support provided to the UN Assistance Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) and other missions, and looks forward to its continued participation.
The Secretary-General encouraged Japan to consider enhancing its cooperation to United Nations operations.
He reiterated his request that Japan consider committing engineers to the new peacekeeping mission in South Sudan, known as UNMISS.
The Secretary-General said he is grateful for the work of the Security Council Working Group during the course of Japanâ??s chairmanship during the period, 2009-11.
