Remarks at the Church in the Camp for Displaced Persons at the Dar es Salam Camp (unofficial transcript)

Press events | Kofi Annan, Former Secretary-General

Thank you very much for receiving me in your church and for the prayers you offer for peace in Sudan. I think we are all for peace and we will all work together for peace. Each of us has a role to play. I'm very happy to be in your country and to be able to meet all of you and everywhere I have gone I have the sense that the people want peace. They want to get on with their lives and they want to be able to rejoin their families, and this is something that I will be discussing with the leaders. I think the leaders owe it to you and you owe it to yourselves and if we all work together and put the enmities of the past behind us we should be able to bring peace to this land. And, I can assure you as the Secretary-General of the United Nations, I'm going to do my best to work with your Government and your brothers of the South to bring peace to Sudan.

This morning I learned three words from your leaders "Salam wahda, sawa sawa" and I will leave here with that and you also keep faith in those three words. Thank you. *****
