Remarks at the Camp for Displaced Persons at the Dar es Salam Camp (unofficial transcript)

Press events | Kofi Annan, Former Secretary-General

Good morning and I want to thank you for coming to meet with me this morning. I have listened to all your messages very carefully. I also came here in the name of peace. I think we are seeing hopeful signs that everyone wants to make peace and we want to work with them to achieve that peace. I also came to ensure that assistance gets to all those who need it, particularly those who are displaced and need support. And, I'm looking forward to discussing all these issues with the President tonight. I think you are familiar with the work the UN agencies and the NGOs do here in the humanitarian field. Some of you have had direct experience of the support they give. We intend to work with the Government to continue that support. But I think when it comes to peace, no one needs to convince you who have suffered from the war the need for peace and what peace will bring. And I think all your speeches, the five different speeches have the same message. "Salam wahda, sawa sawa" . *****
