The Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) carried out a periodical follow-up assessment visit to Italy, on behalf of the United Nations Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC), from 16 to 20 March 2026. The purpose of the visit was to evaluate Italy's progress in implementing key counter-terrorism measures pursuant to Security Council resolution 1373 (2001) and other relevant resolutions. The visit also focused on progress made in implementing the Committee's recommendations made after its initial visit in 2015.

Washington, D.C., 20 February 2026 — The Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations Security Council Counter‑Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED), Ms. Carmen G. Cantor, met with Mr. Guillermo Moncayo, In‑Charge Executive Secretary of the Inter‑American Committee against Terrorism (CICTE) of the Organization of American States (OAS), at CICTE headquarters in Washington, D.C. The courtesy call underscored the long‑standing partnership between CTED and CICTE and reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening counter‑terrorism efforts across the Americas.

11 February 2026

On 10 February 2026, more than 200 participants from Member States, partner international and regional organizations, academia and civil society attended the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate’s (CTED)  technical meeting to brief Member States on the latest issues, trends and developments on the multifaceted linkages between terrorism and organized crime. The event, held at United Nations Headquarters, focused on identifying threats, responses, and potential synergies between West Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean.

On 4 February 2026, the Security Council held a briefing on the “Twenty-second report of the Secretary-General on the threat posed by ISIL (Da’esh) to international peace and security and the range of United Nations efforts in support of Member States in countering the threat (S/2026/57)." Assistant Secretary-General (ASG) Natalia Gherman, Executive Director of the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED), briefed the Council together with Acting Under-Secretary-General Alexandre Zouev of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT).

From 2 to 6 February 2026, the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED), conducted on behalf of the Security Council Counter Terrorism Committee an assessment visit to the Republic of Tajikistan to follow up on the comprehensive visit, which took place in 2017.

On 10 December 2025, the Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF) and the International Institute for Justice and the Rule of Law launched the GCTF Brussels Memorandum on Oversight and Counter-Terrorism. The event was hosted by the European Union in Brussels, with support from the Republic of Korea.

On 18 December 2025, the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) took part in the launch event hosted by the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Coordination Compact dedicated to the new Guidance on "Ensuring Respect for Human Rights while Taking Measures to Counter the Financing of Terrorism" issued with the support of relevant members and observers of the Compact’s Working Groups on Criminal Justice, Legal Responses and Countering the Financing of Terrorism, and on Protecting and Promoting Human Rights, the Rule of Law and Supporting Victims of Terrorism.

The United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Coordination Compact released a new Guidance on Ensuring Respect for Human Rights while Taking Measures to Counter the Financing of Terrorism offering Member States, financial institutions, and other stakeholders a practical framework to ensure that efforts to prevent and disrupt terrorist financing fully comply with international human rights obligations.

20 November 2025

On 18 November 2025, the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED), in partnership with the Organization for Security Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), launched the “CTED-OSCE Trends Report Update: Physical protection of critical infrastructure against terrorist attacks” The launch event was hosted at the Permanent Mission of Norway to the United Nations and was co-hosted by the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In the Trends Report, CTED and OSCE examine trends and developments in international frameworks and national efforts to protect critical infrastructure from terrorist attacks since CTED’s 2017 Report on the same topic.
