Trust Fund

In accordance with General Assembly resolution 64/71 of 4 December 2009, the Secretary-General established the Regular Process voluntary Trust Fund for the purpose of supporting the operations of the first five-year cycle of the Regular Process, including for the provision of assistance to members of the group of experts from developing countries, in particular least developed countries, small island developing States and landlocked developing States; as well as the Special Scholarship Fund to support training programmes for developing countries. Pursuant to General Assembly resolution 68/70, it was further requested that the Secretary-General administer the voluntary trust fund beyond the first five-year cycle and for the duration of the operations of the Regular Process. Contributions to the Trust Fund may be made by States, international financial institutions, donor agencies, intergovernmental organizations, non-governmental organizations and natural and juridical persons.

From 28 July to 6 August 2025, the Group of Experts for the third cycle of the Regular Process for Global Reporting and Assessment of the State of the Marine Environment, including socioeconomic aspects, are convening at the World Maritime University in Malmö, Sweden hosted by WMU - Sasakawa Global Ocean Institute team to finalize draft 2 of the third World Ocean Assessment.
