The commemoration of International Women’s Day presents an opportunity to reflect on the protection of women’s rights, in particular women refugees, since the adoption of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women in 1979.
In observance of International Women’s Day, the Office of Legal Affairs presents a lecture, available in English and Spanish, by Professor Cecilia Bailliet of the University of Oslo, entitled Women Refugees and Gender Persecution / Mujeres Refugiadas y Persecución de Género.
In addition to analyzing challenges affecting refugee women and girls, Professor Bailliet addresses the causes of such challenges and obstacles, as well as certain practices and forms of violence that persist against women in vulnerable conditions.
