Request for Information
A Request for Information (RFI) is a market research tool used by the United Nations Procurement Officials to inform potential vendors of anticipated future requirements for goods or services. It seeks written input on vendor capabilities, potential solutions, and indicative cost and delivery timelines. The purpose of the RFI is to gather information that may assist in refining technical specifications or the scope of work, and to help prepare interested vendors for participation in future competitive solicitations. Responses to the RFI do not constitute offers and are not used to pre-qualify vendors.
Expression of Interest
A Request for Expression of Interest (REOI) is a market research tool used by the United Nations Procurement Officials to identify vendors that wish to participate in a solicitation. Vendors are requested to express interest by a specified deadline by submitting the detailed information requested in the REOI, for example, to demonstrate experience and qualifications in provision of the relevant goods/services.
Outreach activity
Increasing suppliers diversity
The United Nations promotes gender equality in alignment with SDG 5 by actively supporting women-owned businesses in their registration process and capacity building. Women-owned businesses are legal entities that are at least 51% owned and controlled in both long-term decision making and day-to-day management.
The UN champions disability inclusion by partnering with businesses that implement inclusive practices and support individuals with disabilities. Disability- inclusive suppliers are defined as those vendors who make a dedicated, consistent, and measurable effort to implement disability-inclusive practices during recruitment, hiring, and supporting individuals with disabilities, designing accessible products, and promoting universal design principles within their services and manufacturing.
To support global equity and sustainable development, the UN is dedicated in its outreach efforts to attract participation from businesses in developing countries, least developed countries and countries with economies in transition. Through outreach, training, and increased engagement, these suppliers play a vital role in the UN’s supply chain.
