Mr. Klemen Žumer is a senior advisor on Political Affairs, Peace and Security in the Office of the President of the General Assembly for its 79th session.
Klemen has over 20 years of experience working in the European Parliament in various roles, focusing on EU foreign policy, parliamentary democracy, political communication, and multilateral diplomacy. Before his current position, he served as First Counsellor for Parliamentary Relations in the European Union Delegation to the United Nations in New York, representing the European Parliament. Previously, he led a team within the European Parliamentary Research Service, headed the European Parliament Liaison Office in Slovenia, and worked as Head of Cabinet to Member of the European Parliament and former Slovenian Prime Minister Lojze Peterle.
Klemen’s career began as a university researcher and teacher before transitioning to political advisory roles following Slovenia’s accession to the European Union.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Canada, an MBA specialization from Slovenia, and two Master’s degrees in International Political Economy and International Relations from the London School of Economics and Sciences Po Paris. Fluent in Slovenian, English, French, Serbo-Croatian, and Spanish, Klemen brings extensive expertise in fostering partnerships and dialogue within multilateral settings.
