Readout of the President of the General Assembly’s Meeting with H.E. Mr. Petteri Orpo, Prime Minister of the Republic of Finland

The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Philemon Yang, met with H.E. Mr. Petteri Orpo, Prime Minister of the Republic of Finland, on 21 July 2025.

The President of the General Assembly and the Prime Minister had a productive discussion on the importance of multilateralism amid rising global political tensions. The Prime Minister emphasized Finland’s leadership in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). With just four years remaining to achieve the 2030 Agenda, the Prime Minister reaffirmed Finland’s dedication to supporting developing countries in meeting their development objectives.

The President of the General Assembly underscored the significance of the recently adopted Sevilla Commitment as a renewed global framework to address the pressing challenges of sustainable development.

The President of the General Assembly and the Prime Minister also discussed the importance of coordination and collaboration across UN organs, including in the context of the UN80 Initiative and Security Council reform.
