President of General Assembly to convene multi-stakeholder dialogue to review commitments and address gaps in Africa’s development

The President of the UN General Assembly Philemon Yang will convene an interactive multistakeholder dialogue on Monday, 21 July 2025, at the UN Headquarters in New York to discuss the main findings and recommendations in the Secretary-General’s report on the review of the implementation of commitments made toward Africa’s development.

Among its objectives, this event will seek to foster dialogue on the progress achieved in implementing the commitments towards Africa’s development in governance, human capital, Science, Technology and Innovation (STI), digital transformation, and turbocharging the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This dialogue also seeks to identify opportunities for targeted action in addressing the present gaps in Africa’s development in key areas such as governance, human capital, STI, and the digital divide.

This interactive dialogue will enrich the discussions during the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development and contribute to the implementation of the Pact for the Future and its annexes, in particular the Global Digital Compact. It will also provide a platform for reflection towards the Second World Summit on Social Development in November 2025 and the High-Level Meeting on the overall review of the implementation of the outcomes of the World Summit on Information Society in December 2025.
