At General Assembly, Member States strive to enhance global governance of artificial intelligence for the benefit of humanity

The world must respond in an agile manner to the rapidly changing digital landscape: risks in artificial intelligence are proliferating and approximately 2.7 billion people lack access to the opportunities that the internet offers.
The Global Digital Compact, adopted as an annex to the Pact for the Future in September 2024, is an opportunity to advance global governance of artificial intelligence and create a safe and inclusive future for all.
Following the adoption of the Compact, the President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Philemon Yang, appointed the Permanent Representative of Costa Rica to the UN, H.E. Ms. Maritza Chan Valverde and the Permanent Representative of Spain to the UN, H.E. Mr. Héctor José Gómez Hernández as co-facilitators to identify the terms of reference and modalities for the establishment and functioning of the Independent International Scientific Panel on Artificial Intelligence and the Global Dialogue on AI Governance. .
