Statement attributable to the Spokesperson for the President of the UN General Assembly
on the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon
The President of the United Nations General Assembly welcomes the announcement of a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon. He thanks all those who have been involved in brokering the cease-fire.
This ceasefire comes after more than one year of hostilities, thousands of deaths, widespread destruction of civilian infrastructure and the displacement of large populations on both sides of the Blue Line.
The President of the United Nations General Assembly calls on all parties to fully respect the terms of the ceasefire agreement and to work towards the full implementation of U.N. Security Council Resolution 1701 (2006) to ensure lasting security and stability for the people of Israel and Lebanon.
The President of the United Nations General Assembly calls for continuous dialogue for a durable solution to peace and security in the Middle East.
