The President of the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly, H.E. Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, met with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Latvia, H.E. Edgars Rinkēvičs. The Foreign Minister expressed his, and Latvia’s support for the priorities of the President of the General Assembly, citing in particular its own ambitious climate action targets. H.E. Rinkēvičs also took the opportunity to brief the President of the General Assembly on Latvia’s priorities, having been elected to the Economic and Social Council for the term 2020-2022. These priorities included climate action, as well as strengthening and moving forward on a digital agenda. The two principles agreed that rolling out digital education and technology at a grass roots level can be a way to accelerate implementation of the SDGs. The Foreign Minister of Latvia also highlighted that digital education can be a social leveler, facilitating gender empowerment, and access to services across marginalized groups.
