H.E. Mr. Tijjani Muhammad Bande, President of the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly met with Rt. Hon. Andrew Holness, Prime Minister of Jamaica, Senator the Hon. Kamina Johnson-Smith, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade; and Hon. Daryl Vaz, Minister with responsibility for the Land, Environment, Climate Change and Investment. The Prime Minister expressed his support for the priorities of the President, which are aligned with Jamaica’s national priorities. The President highlighted the urgency and necessity to address climate change and the importance of collective action from countries. The President concurred with the Prime Minister in recognizing the challenges of Small Island Developing States and the impact of extreme weather events as the new normal for Caribbean states. The President supported the Prime Minister’s call for the world to look beyond infrastructure and pay urgent attention to the fiscal side of the climate crisis and the management of public finance.
