The President of the General Assembly, His Excellency Tijjani Muhammad Bande met with the President of the African Development Bank Group, Mr. Akinwumi Adesina on the eve of High Level Week of the United Nations General Assembly.

Mr. Adesina congratulated the President of the General Assembly upon his election, citing various successes his career as evidence of the potential for his presidency. Mr. Adesina then proceeded to update the H.E. Bande on the dramatic financial and implementation effort that the Bank is putting in to implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, in particular, implementation of the ‘High 5s’. The High 5s mark the five priority areas of AfDB under Mr. Adesina’s presidency, and include, electrification, food security, industrialization, integration, and improvement of quality of life. Mr. Adesina also briefed the president on various new financing initiatives. The President of the General Assembly remarked that though we have far to go to achieve the SDGs, we must ensure that opportunities are given to organizations such as the AfDB to demonstrate the progress that has already been made, and to facilitate replication and upscaling of successful initiatives.
