GENERAL ASSEMBLY PRESIDENT HEADS TO PRAGUE AND BRUSSELS

 

United Nations, New York, 23 March 2018 – The President of the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Miroslav Lajčák, will be in Prague, Czech Republic, from 25 to 26 March. There he will address the opening of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Preparatory Meeting entitled “Towards sustainable, resilient and inclusive societies through participation of all”.

While in Prague, the President is expected to meet with H.E. Mr. Andrej Babiš, Prime Minister of the Czech Republic; H.E. Mr. Martin Stropnický, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs; and H.E. Mr. Radek Vondráček, President of Chamber of Deputies in the Parliament.

The President will travel to Prague with: Mr. Abdelghani Merabet, Senior Adviser; Mr. Michal Komada, Senior Adviser; and Ms. Sharifa Alnesf, Communications Adviser.

From Prague, the President will head to Brussels, Belgium, on 26 March, where he is planning to meet with officials from European institutions, including: H.E. Mr. Donald Tusk, President of the European Council; H.E. Mr. Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission; H.E. Mr. Antonio Tajani, President of the European Parliament. He also expects to meet with H.E. Mr. Didier Reynders, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign and European Affairs of Belgium and the United Nations Country Team.

In Brussels, the President will be accompanied by Mr. Abdelghani Merabet, Senior Adviser; Ms. Sharifa Alnesf, Communications Adviser; and Ms. Vanda Šipošová, Personal Assistant to the President.

Travel costs will be covered by the Trust Fund of the Office of the President of the General Assembly with support on the ground in Prague provided by the Government of the Czech Republic.

The President will be back in his office in New York on 2 April.
