PRESIDENT TO HOLD END-OF-SESSION PRESS CONFERENCE TOMORROW

  • The President will hold his end-of-session press conference at United Nations Headquarters tomorrow at 11:00 a.m.

 

GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO CONSIDER REPORT ON SECURITY COUNCIL

  • This afternoon at 3:00, the President will chair a meeting of the General Assembly plenary to consider a report of the Security Council.
  • That report details the Council’s activities for 2017.
  • The report will be introduced by a representative of the United States, which currently holds the Presidency of the Security Council.

 

PRESIDENT NOMINATES SPEAKERS TO ADDRESS MANDELA SUMMIT OPENING PLENARY

  • Regarding the Nelson Mandela Peace Summit on 24 September, the President has informed Member States that he has identified an eminent person and a representative of civil society to speak at the opening plenary.
  • He is proposing Ms. Graça Machel of The Elders as the eminent person and Mr. Kumi Naidoo, the Secretary General of Amnesty International, as the civil society representative.
  • He has also proposed that the opening plenary meeting feature statements by the President of South Africa and the Prime Minister of Ireland.
  • Member States are expected to take action on these proposals at tomorrow’s plenary meeting.
