NEW YORK, 2 March 2016 – The President of the UN General Assembly H.E. Mogens Lykketoft is travelling to Ethiopia on Thursday and Friday (3-4 March) to meet Government and UN leaders, address the African Union and meet refugees.
After arriving in Addis Ababa on Thursday, Mr Lykketoft will visit The Jesuit Refugee Center in Addis Ababa.
On Friday, Mr Lykketoft will meet with the Chair of the African Union Commission, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma followed by an address to the African Union Permanent Representatives Committee.
On Friday afternoon, the President will meet with meet H.E. Dr Hailemariam Desalegn, Prime Minister of Ethiopia as well as Mr Haile Menkerios, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative and Head of the UN Office to the African Union. He will also address the Civil Society Workshop on “The importance of a strategic partnership between the UN and the Africa Union”.
The President will return to New York on Saturday morning and is travelling with Chef de Cabinet Tomas Anker Christensen, Senior Advisers Sipho Seakamela and Pierre-Christophe Chatzisavas, Special Assistant Marcus Carter Mathiasen and Spokesperson Dan Thomas. The trip is paid for from the Office of the President’s Trust Fund.
