During his last meeting of his two day visit to Brussels, UN General Assembly President Mr. Mogens Lykketoft held talks with EU Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development Mr. Neven Mimica and EU Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection Mr. Christos Stylianides. In the Brussels Berlaymont building, the gentlemen covered a wide range of issues related to the link between sustainable development and humanitarian assistance. On this, Mr Lykketoft stressed the importance of looking at all humanitarian crises worldwide, and not only at those that are linked to the current refugee situation. Therefore it is important that member states will keep the promises they made in Addis, Paris and Davos, the President said.
The two Commissioners commited to further develop European policies when it comes to sustainability, and development and humanitarian issues. In light of this, Mr. Stylianides gave an overview of the efforts of Europe in relation to the Syrian crisis.
