The President of the General Assembly congratulated Mr. Filippo Grandi on his election as UN High Commissioner for Refugees and wished him success during his tenure. They exchanged views on humanitarian situation in different parts of the world and challenges posed by the global humanitarian and refugee crisis. They also exchanged views on important meetings and summits scheduled in 2016 such as
(i) Syria Donors Conference in London on 4 February
(ii) UNHCR Meeting on legal pathways for Syrian refugees in Geneva on 30 March
(iii) World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul on 23-24 May and
(iv) High-Level Meeting of the General Assembly on 19 September to address large movement of refugees and migrants
