The President of the UN General Assembly and his senior staff enjoyed a wide ranging discussion with Bill and Melinda Gates, co-founders of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and their senior advisers Mark Suzman and Carol Welch today. Up-scaling data collection, data processing and capacity building, especially in developing countries, will be key for the monitoring and follow-up of the SDGs. The PGA thanked Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for its decisive contribution in this regard, as well as in addressing international health and agriculture-related goals. Given the transformational role of technology and its importance for the achievement of the 2030 Agenda, Mr Lykketoft invited the Gates Foundation to consider supporting the implementation of the Technology Facilitation Mechanism.
