Nepal graduation status
Nepal is scheduled to graduate on 24 November 2026 (see the General Assembly resolution here).
On 15 May 2026, the Government of Nepal sent a letter to the Secretary-General of the United Nations requesting support on extending the preparatory period by three years, until November 2029. This triggered the Crisis Response Process under teh CDP's enhanced monitoring mechanism. Having undertaken its assessment, the CDP concluded that an extension of the preparatory period by the General Assembly would be appropriate, provided that the extension is linked to the development and implementation of a clear and time-bound plan to adjust and reprioritize its smooth transition strategy.
