Tuvalu graduation status

The Committee for Development Policy recommended Tuvalu's graduation in 2012. ECOSOC has deferred its consideration of the recommendation to a later date.

Next step: for Tuvalu to graduate, ECOSOC must endorse the CDP's recommendation.

In 2020, the share of Least Developed Countries (LDCs) in world trade remained at just 1%. Although the Istanbul Programme of Action (IPoA) for LDCs and SDG target 17.11 both sought to double LDCs’ share of global exports by 2020, the world’s 47 LDCs missed the target.

LDC graduation has become an increasingly important issue in the international development agenda. Meeting graduation eligibility is a major goal of the Istanbul Plan of Action for the Least Developed Countries for the decade 201-2020 (IPoA).
