Developed by Northumbria University, the Gender and Disaster Network is an educational project initiated by women and men interested in gender relations in disaster contexts. It emerged during the July 1997 Natural Hazards Research and Applications Center workshop in Denver, Colorado. Understanding that communication technology is not fully accessible and that there are many languages and contexts, this site intends to utilize the Internet in the support of a global network of researchers and practitioners. http://online.northumbria.ac.uk/geography_research/gdn/
The Sustainable Development Communications Network (SDCN) is a group of leading civil society organizations seeking to accelerate the implementation of sustainable development through broader, integrated information and communications about what is known. The Global Learning Network (GLN) is a decentralised international partner network of individuals, centres of excellence, institutions and programmes interested in sharing knowledge and pooling resources for joint activities related to public-private partnerships at the local level. The Network provides partners with services which close the gap between practical experience and theoretical analysis through continuing learning from and exchange of best practices and lessons learned from concrete project implementation.

The National Councils for Sustainable Development (NCSDs): In 1997, the Earth Council organized national and regional consultations in preparation for the Rio+5 Forum, which laid the groundwork for the creation and active functioning of many NCSDs. Since then, the Earth Council NCSD Program has continued to catalyse dialogue amongst stakeholders in developing regions towards creation of NCSDs, facilitate capacity building and training with NCSDs, and facilitate closer linkages with UN agencies engaged in sustainable development as well as key NGO advocacies.
