HLPF Side event – Financing for Development: Progress and Prospects 2017

  • Date: 13 July 2017, 1:15 pm - 2:30 pm
  • Location: Conference Room B, United Nations Headquarters, New York

Implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Addis Ababa Action Agenda on Financing for Development has begun in earnest. The 2017 report of the Inter-agency Task Force on Financing for Development provides a first assessment of progress in implementing the Financing for Development outcomes and in aligning our policies and institutions with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Progress can be reported in all seven action areas of the Addis Agenda. Nonetheless, a difficult global environment has impeded individual and collective efforts, and many implementation gaps remain. The challenging global environment in 2016 had significant impacts on national efforts to implement the Addis Agenda. However, the Task Force report finds that national actions and international cooperation can help change the trajectory of the global economy and support countries toward achieving the SDGs.

The side event will familiarize participants of the High Level Political Forum with the findings of the 2017 Task Force report and explore how to strengthen the links between the Task Force’s work and the HLPF, especially in relation to the means of implementation of the SDGs.

Opening remarks: Mr. Wu Hongbo, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs
Moderator: Ms. Shari Spiegel, Chief of Policy Analysis, Financing for Development Office, UN DESA
