From 24 to 26 June 2026, the Triangular Partnership Programme (TPP) brought together a broad and diverse group of stakeholders in Hanoi, Viet Nam.
Hosted by the Government of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam and co‑chaired by Australia and Japan, the Stakeholders' Workshop gathered 26 Member States, several United Nations entities and over 80 participants, marking a strategically significant moment for the TPP.
Over the three days, the workshop highlighted:
Programme Updates: A review of progress since 2025, including developments across engineering, medical, C4ISR, counter‑improvised explosive devices (C-IED), and telemedicine.
Impact and Performance: Discussions on strengthening the monitoring and reporting of impact‑driven activities; assessing the multiplier effect of training‑of‑trainers initiative; and identifying evidence of TPP impact at national, regional, and mission levels.
Regional Partnerships and Lessons Learned: Exchanges on lessons emerging from the TPP training approach; opportunities to deepen cooperation with regional organizations.
Innovation: Dialogue on emerging threats, Member State‑led innovation, and opportunities to leverage technology, including C‑IED, counter-unmanned aircraft systems (C‑UAS), telemedicine, and artificial intelligence‑enabled tools, to improve the safety of peacekeepers.
The final day focused on the future direction of the TPP (from 2027 to 2030), drawing on insights from the recent strategic and peacekeeping policy developments, including the latest Action for Peacekeeping Impact Strategy.
Attendees included representatives from the Department of Peace Operations, Department of Safety and Security, Office of Information and Communications Technology, Mine Action Service, and other United Nations partners, alongside donors, training providers, hosts, and troop and police-contributing countries. Discussions underscored the growing relevance of the TPP in addressing capability gaps in United Nations and regional peace operations.
The insights gathered in Hanoi will guide the next phase of growth of the Triangular Partnership Programme, ensuring it remains a forward‑looking, adaptable, and inclusive platform for advancing work on C‑IED, expanding discussions on C‑UAS, and supporting a wider range of troop-contributing countries.
