Appointed to the position by Secretary-General António Guterres on 1 June, Mr. Mariano takes over from Patrick Carey, who led OICT as Acting Assistant Secretary-General from early 2020.
We are grateful to Mr. Carey, who helped move forward several important initiatives, and whose leadership and dedication was instrumental in ensuring the Organization was able to transition, almost overnight, to full remote working for most of its personnel due to COVID-19.
