Changing our world

At the three-day summit on sustainable development in 2015, more than 150 world leaders gathered at United Nations Headquarters in New York to formally approve an ambitious new agenda for sustainable development.

The new plan, called Transforming Our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by 2030, included a declaration, 17 sustainable development goals and 169 targets.

The goal of the plan: to find new ways to improve the lives of the world's people, to eradicate poverty, to promote prosperity and well-being for all, to protect the environment, and to fight against climate change.

Two months later, at the 2015 Paris Conference on Climate Change also known as COP21, the Paris Agreement was signed, then ratified by 187 parties.
